Los Angeles, California – April 20, 2015 – The Conference to Advance Women in Technology, titled “What are We Missing? Rethinking Strategies to Advance Women in Technology,” will take place on April 30, 2015 at UCLA Carnesale Commons from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm. It is open to women and men who want to be part of solutions to create tech workplaces that foster diversity, inclusion and innovation.

Organized by UCLA’s Luskin Center for Innovation and UCLA’s Office of Information Technology, this inaugural event will bring together 250 leaders and stakeholders to discuss the gender and diversity gap in the tech sector. Women hold about a quarter of all information tech jobs and approximately 50 percent of women in science, engineering and tech jobs leave. The conference will focus on advancing effective strategies to help foster female entrepreneurship and disrupt the gendered workforce culture that keeps women from rising to leadership positions.

“Participants will emerge with actionable takeaways they can bring back to their workplaces,” said Colleen Callahan, Deputy Director of the Luskin Center for Innovation. “By inviting influential stakeholders to explore solutions to foster systemic change, we hope to have a measurable impact on gender equality in the tech sector.”

“This conference, and the subsequent report of its findings, will delve past anecdotal conversations about the challenges women face in tech fields,” stated Rebecca Sadwick, project manager of the Digital Technologies Initiative at the Luskin Center. “It will instead focus on actionable, scalable public and corporate policies to effectively advance women in corporate and entrepreneurial tech roles.”
