Amaya joins LCI as our Events and Operations Coordinator

Learn more about our newest team member and her role

The Luskin Center for Innovation (LCI) is pleased to announce Amaya Breese as our new Events and Operations Coordinator. 

Amaya will play a critical role in advancing LCI’s mission by supporting team members through daily office operations, administrative processes, and uplifting our work at events. 

With a background in higher education from UCLA Extension and Columbia University, she brings a passion for delivering impactful experiences and ensuring seamless operations. Her experience includes coordinating events and supporting grants and finance administration.

We asked Amaya a few questions to get to know her better. Read on to learn more!

Why is environmental policy important to you? 

Environmental policy is important to me because it directly impacts people and community well-being. My work centers on putting people first, and that begins with ensuring everyone has a healthy and thriving environment.

How did you first get interested in environmental policy?

My experience growing up in Los Angeles and now residing in Boyle Heights, I’ve seen firsthand the impact environmental policies, civic groups, and non-profit organizations have in our local communities. That’s why I’m driven to make any contribution I can to advancing policy that fosters healthier neighborhoods.

What are you most looking forward to in this role? 

I look forward to facilitating logistics for crucial conversations between UCLA scholars, civic leaders, and policy experts, helping expand LCI’s influence.

What drew you to UCLA and the Luskin Center for Innovation?

I was drawn to LCI by its mission-driven work and dedicated staff. The center’s high-quality research has a tangible impact on L.A. communities, and I’m excited to contribute to UCLA’s role in shaping the city.

What are a few things people should know about you? 

I come from a background in higher ed and public service from my time with AmeriCorps. I’m passionate about making things more efficient and creating meaningful experiences, especially when it comes to community and inclusion.

What do you like to do in your free time?

When I’m not working, I like to explore all things art-related around the city, from museums to new films. I also enjoy testing out new recipes at home and going camping!
