The UCLA Luskin Center for Innovation is thrilled to welcome Jean Claude Iradukunda as a Data Scientist and Associate Project Manager.
In this role, Jean Claude will develop, manage, and execute the Luskin Center for Innovation’s Urban Heat Research projects that bridge data science with policy and planning to help communities nationwide adapt to rising temperatures.
He holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Science from UC Riverside, where he actively contributed to the Science to Policy program.
We asked Jean Claude a few questions to learn more about his journey and vision for his work at the Luskin Center for Innovation.
Environmental policy is important because people’s quality of life is directly tied to our environment. The decisions we make today — such as increasing green spaces to improve air quality and provide shade or conserving water resources — have lasting impacts on community health and wellbeing.
I became interested in environmental policy during graduate school when I recognized how data-driven research could inform practical solutions to environmental problems. I was especially drawn to using both analytical and communication skills to make research findings clear and actionable for decision-makers.
I look forward to using data to tell meaningful stories and collaborating with stakeholders in government, nonprofits, and community organizations to drive action.
The UCLA Luskin Center for Innovation offers a unique opportunity to collaborate across disciplines and engage with community members to ensure that the ongoing research addresses the pressing challenges people face.
I enjoy engaging with people from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds to learn and gain new perspectives. I’m also a data enthusiast, passionate about transforming numbers into valuable information.
I enjoy spending time with family and friends, reading, exploring, and visiting new places.
