ABOUT STOCKTON RISING

  • 2016

    Stockton organizing efforts kicked off.

A coalition of community-based organizations partnered with The Greenlining Institute to address environmental, health, and economic inequities facing Stockton in the city’s most disadvantaged neighborhoods. To further their efforts, the City of Stockton was invited to join them in applying for a grant to kick off planning efforts (TCC Round 1 Planning Grant).

The Greenlining Institute played a critical role in helping the coalition think through opportunities to leverage California Climate Investment dollars toward reversing the harmful legacies of the past.

  • 2018

Partners secured a TCC Planning Grant.

The California Strategic Growth Council awarded the applicants $170,00 to help support the development of the Sustainable Neighborhood Plan and the formation of a broader coalition of community-based and external partners, known as Rise Stockton. Building upon their planning activities, the team successfully applied for a larger TCC grant (Round 3 Implementation Grant).

To produce the Sustainable Neighborhood Plan, the Rise Stockton coalition engaged over 2,000 residents and translated their input into seven community priorities: energy, water, health, parks, safety, transportation, waste, and water.

  • 2020

Partners secured their first TCC Implementation Grant.

The Strategic Growth Council awarded $10.8 million to Stockton Rising partners to advance the vision of the Sustainable Neighborhood Plan. Partners also dedicated $20.4 million in leveraged/matching funds to support this vision. With the momentum created by their first TCC Implementation Grant, partners applied for a secondImplementation Grant (Round 4) to extend and expand their work in the community.

The $10.8 million grant funded the following activities from 2020 to 2023: energy and water efficiency upgrades, rooftop solar installations, tree plantings, active transportation improvements, healthy food distribution/education, community engagement, and workforce development.

  • 2022

Partners secured their second TCC Implementation Grant.

The Strategic Growth Council awarded Stockton Rising partners an additional $24.2 million in grant funding. The funding kicked in at the close of the partners’ last grant (September 2023) and continues their work through September 2027. The funding is also complemented by $14 in leveraged/matching funds from project partners.

The $24.2 million TCC grant will advance the work under the previous grant, as well as support the procurement of a hybrid electric bus, the renovation of a park, and the mitigation of asthma incidence within the community.

With a total of $35 million in TCC funding, measurable change is underway.

The City of Stockton maintains a dedicated webpage to announce upcoming Stockton Rising meetings and events.
